Affordable Housing Opportunity in Newark, NJ

Apply Now for Newly Constructed Two-Family Homes

The Urban League of Essex County Opportunity Corporation (ULECOC) is offering income-eligible families the chance to purchase one of eight newly constructed two-family homes in Newark, NJ. These homes, priced between $142,500 and $190,000, are located on Camden Street and Fairmount Avenue. Applications must be submitted by August 30, 2024, including attendance at an informational session, financial literacy workshop, and an 8-hour HUD-approved homebuyers' education workshop. A randomized selection process for qualified applicants will occur on September 16, 2024. Mandatory informational sessions are scheduled for August 1st and August 15th. We offer a variety of programs and services tailored to meet the diverse needs of our community. Our public housing program, housing choice voucher program (Section 8), and emergency housing vouchers provide essential support for those in need. Additionally, we offer client services and language access documents to ensure everyone can access the help they need. Learn about your rights and responsibilities as a participant in our programs. Currently, we assist over 10,000 families through our various programs.

Services:

Public Housing Program
The Public Housing Program provides safe and affordable rental housing for eligible low-income families, the elderly, and people with disabilities. These housing units are managed by local public housing agencies, ensuring that tenants have access to necessary resources and support services.
Housing Choice Voucher Program (Section 8)
The Housing Choice Voucher Program, commonly known as Section 8, assists very low-income families, the elderly, and the disabled in affording decent, safe, and sanitary housing in the private market. Participants receive vouchers that cover a portion of their rent, with the remainder paid directly to landlords by local public housing agencies.
Emergency Housing Vouchers
Emergency Housing Vouchers (EHVs) are designed to help individuals and families who are homeless, at risk of homelessness, or fleeing domestic violence. These vouchers provide immediate housing assistance, prioritizing the most vulnerable populations to ensure they have safe and stable living conditions.
Client Services
Client Services encompass a wide range of support and resources provided to individuals and families seeking housing assistance. These services include housing counseling, financial literacy education, job training, and access to community resources, all aimed at helping clients achieve long-term stability and self-sufficiency.
